Critical Thinking on issues that concern PNG is very important for development. Debating those issues and solving those prevalent issues provide the definition of a sovereign nation. And it all starts at the early stages of schooling. So much debate on the type of PNG education have been raised in different forums and avenues. As the national education department is embarking on a new education policy - that is deviating from OBE - a word of advise would be to integrate Critical Thinking subjects or for this matter, a more proactive and responsive level of education that empowers PNG children to develop analytical skills. We could be opting for a Discourse Analytical Subject that could pave the way for bright leaders that do not accept things that include foreign policies and recommendations on face value. Experience demonstrates our illusive cognitive levels and for this reason we can not offer critique to major policy initiatives of the national government, development partners, and so on. We need students to be able to speak out what is right and wrong. We need to develop intelligence and this intelligence should be augmented with determination and tolerance. When I enter classrooms, teachers are teaching without any consideration to a holistic view on education and life long learning. It is absurd. These children are our future leaders. How are we preparing them to lead us and craft the destiny of our country? Imagine, most of our political leaders attending forums that deal with national matters sitting throughout those forums without even speaking out and blatantly accepting directives and policies without coherent screening. Imagine, our development partners presenting our government with documentations and without rigorous review blatantly accept them by putting their signatures at the back of those documents. Imagine, what would happen if our children are very ardent with creative thinking making very rational choices as they progress through their lives. We need critical minds, not face value sympathizers. We need people who stand for what is right - that incorporate utilitarian principle. It is now a challenge or may be a recommendation for those educationists to start planning for tomorrow.
