Cross Insurance Arena Trustees Select Global Spectrum to Manage Newly-Renovated Venue Portland, ME – The Cross Insurance Arena’s Board of Trustees announced today that it will enter into contract negotiations with Global Spectrum, an international private facility management company, to operate the newly renovated Cross Insurance Arena in Portland. The unanimous vote comes after months of due diligence on the part of the Trustees to evaluate the benefits of private management versus public management. The consideration of a potential shift to a private management model first began over two-and-a-half years ago when the decision was made to renovate the Cumberland County Civic Center. The Trustees issued a RFP earlier this year, and two nationally recognized firms submitted proposals. Following months of analysis and review, including economic impact assessments, reference checks, industry inquiries, and candidate interviews, the Trustees voted unanimously to select Global Spectrum. Cross Insurance Arena Board Chair Neal Pratt stated that: We were very fortunate to have two such well respected firms want to manage the facility. In the end, the Trustees concluded that Global Spectrum is very well suited to achieve our two primary management goals: better access to national resources that will lead to more entertainment options and more efficient facility operations, and an approach that continues the tradition of local community involvement and integration. Pratt also added that, This arena is a tremendous community asset and we want to be sure to maintain its community flavor, as well as its economic and entertainment value. Global Spectrum is a Comcast-Spectacor affiliated company which operates more than 125 arenas, stadiums and convention centers throughout the world, including the Cross Insurance Center in nearby Bangor, ME. Global Spectrum facilities annually present more than 15,000 events, reach attendance numbers in excess of $23 million and generate more than $699 million in gross revenues. As a Comcast-Spectacor company, Global Spectrum is unique in its ability to offer clients synergistic management opportunities in the areas of food and beverage services, ticketing, and commercial rights marketing services. This provides facilities the ability to maximize revenue potential, attract greater numbers of events and to maximize attendance at the venues Global Spectrum manages. Comcast-Spectacor is the parent company of the Philadelphia Flyers who once had a minor league affiliate (the Maine Mariners) playing in the Civic Center in Portland. “We would like to thank the board for recommending Global Spectrum, said Global Spectrum President John Page. Portland is a tremendous market and one we have been eyeing for many years as our roots (in Portland) extend back to when our founder and Chairman Ed Snider created the Maine Mariners and played at the Civic Center. This is like a homecoming for us. We look forward to the synergies we can create with the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor and our many other New England facilities. We also have a terrific working relationship with the Cross family and look forward to extending that relationship to benefit the residents of the Portland area. The Cross Insurance Arena currently maintains a successful partnership with Front Row Marketing Services, also a subsidiary of Comcast-Spectacor. Front Row Marketing Services represents the Cross Insurance Arena in all commercial rights and premium seating sales and is responsible for securing the recent naming rights partnership between the venue and Maine based Cross Insurance.
