[Crosslinguistic influences] We discussed crosslinguistic - TopicsExpress

[Crosslinguistic influences] We discussed crosslinguistic influences from Japanese to English and also from English to Japanese. We cited examples of ‘katakana’ words. I wonder if it is an example of crosslinguistic influences. If so, meaning of the term is broad. Also, I realized through discussion that we can easily notice crosslinguistic influence of words, but it is difficult to notice one of grammar or structure. It means that correcting errors related to grammar or structure is difficult. If someone, maybe a teacher, teaches it to us, we can notice the difference and how it influences our L2 production. If we realize the crosslinguistic influence of them, I guess it is still difficult to correct it. However, knowing it is better than not knowing. Therefore, I think if SLA research of crosslinguistic influences progress more and we can grasp what is the cause of them, we would learn English or other languages more easily.
