Cuenca Dance Mob Training Begins Tuesday, October 7 at Café Eucalyptus Cuenca Dance Mob training starts Tuesday, October 7, 4 pm at Café Eucalyptus, Gran Colombia 9-41 y Benigno Malo. The Dance Mob will probably first strike Saturday, November 8 somewhere in Cuenca. Where? We can’t tell you! It’s a secret! Like us on Facebook! Email us at: cuencadancemob@gmail Here’s what you need to know: The cost of the training is $5 per lesson when you pre-pay for all lessons in a month. For instance, in October we will have four lessons, October 7, 14, 21, and 28. If you show up on October 7 and pay $20, you are set for the entire month. If you only buy one lesson the cost is $10. You decide which plan works best for you. Please report to the instruction room, upstairs in Café Eucalyptus, at 3:30 p.m. We need time to register everyone and the music machine will be on so that you can warm up and socialize. Only enrolled students will be allowed in the instruction room. No observers will be allowed in the instruction room. We need all the space we can get and observers tend to be a distraction to our dancers. Non-students are welcome to sit anywhere that they like in Café Eucalyptus during the dance training outside of the instruction room. Food and beverages will be offered for sale by the Café Eucalyptus staff before, during, and after the dance instruction, but please, no food or beverages in the instruction area during actual instruction time. After the dance instruction is over, we will probably all go downstairs, enjoy a meal or drink or two, and hang around a bit, sharing conversation, and practicing our dance routine on the downstairs dance floor of Café Eucalyptus, no doubt in front of a live audience (whoever happens to be there, to help everyone get over their stage fright). We’ll probably do a little general dancing, too. Who’s signed up so far? So far, the vast majority of people who have signed up for Cuenca Flash Mob Training are women. No problema because no partners will be needed to participate but please do your best to spread the word to get as many guys involved as you can, too. Not everyone has to learn the whole dance routine. There will be parts for superstars, for our pretty good dancers, and for people who can’t dance and chew gum at the same time. What’s our first dance number? Our first Cuenca Dance Mob performance will be done to the tune of Donna Summer’s “Hot Stuff.” Here’s a link to Hot Stuff so that you can familiarize yourself with the words and music. Being familiar with the words will help you learn the dance moves because we be using a little bit of the science of Music Theory called “form” to help you understand the overall structure of the song and dance routine: https://youtube/watch?v=cDkCn1iEIac As the name of the song suggests, the dance routine will be “hot” so be prepared to shake your hips, perform cha-cha turns, side steps and rotating side steps, and a little thing that I call “the roller coaster.” Anyone can learn the dance steps and in case you haven’t heard, David Naccari, our Chief Dance Instructor, is an excellent dance instructor who knows how to break things down and make them understandable even for the most novice of dancers. Just check at all of the recommendations for our sister program “Dance Club Cuenca” and you will know that this is true. ecuador-retirement.gringotree/recommendations/dance-club-cuenca/ gringopost/2014/08/recommendation-for-dance-club-cuenca.html Oh, and in case you’ve never seen a Flash Mob (we’re calling it a Dance Mob), take a look at this video – lots of fun for both dancers and spectators. https://youtube/watch?v=3eOrABjYDJU Please continue to send me the mail addresses of people who would like to be added to our mailing list and forward our newsletter to potential Dance Mobbers. The more the merrier! For our practice sessions, please wear very comfortable clothes, and shoes that are both stable and protect all parts of your feet. Tennis shoes are fine. Gym clothes are fine. Please no sandals or other open-toed or open-heeled shoes - you might get your feet hurt (ouch). When we get around to our first public performance in November, we’ll give you guidelines on how to dress smart without causing problems for you or the dance routine. FRAGRANCE-FREE POLICY If you like I can send you loads of scientific reports and data that show that perfume, cologne, and other fragrances cause lots of respiratory and other health problems for lots of people whether your fragrance is “natural” or not. Since we will be working in close quarters and inhaling each other’s airspace, PLEASE DO NOT WEAR PERFUME OR OTHER FRAGRANCE to Cuenca Flash Mob events. Along those same lines, please don’t show up smelling like an ash tray, either. If you don’t like living healthy and staying healthy then Cuenca Dance Mob and its affiliated program, Dance Club Cuenca, are not for you. When and where will we perform our first Dance Mob? Right now our first projected performance is Saturday, November 8, somewhere in Cuenca. We might change that date to give you an even greater audience to perform before with even more fun activities. Suffice it to say that whatever date and place we choose it will be fun, a surprise, and food and refreshments will be offered for sale for you to enjoy, and lots of nice people will be there for you to meet. In any event, your first Dance Mob performance will occur within the first or second week of November. I won’t be telling you the exact location until about a week before the performance but I should have an exact date for you in a couple of weeks so that you can save the date on your calendar. Any questions? Email us at cuencadancemob @gmail and please support the cause by Liking us on Facebook and talking Cuenca Dance Mob up with your friends. Be a part of history!
