Curbside Community Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization who is devoted to making a difference in the lives of children & families in the community Mission Reaching Souls in the Inner City for Jesus…Feeding one Child at a Time. Investing Compassion, Encouragement and Hope to the communities… Jesus said, ‘I was hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty and you gave me a drink, I was homeless and you gave me a room, I was shivering and you gave me clothes, I was sick and you stopped to visit, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Seeing lives transformed and souls saved. It’s Not a Religion…It’s a Relationship John 3:16 Description The Adelanto West Ministry Team from Abundant Living Family Church (HD) began the Breakfast in a Bag ministry March 10, 2012 in an apartment complex on Auburn Street in Adelanto. In the 96 unit complex there were only 18 families. The vision was to provide food for the children during the weeks when food may be scarce. Most of the families were without jobs and relied on monthly food assistance from the state. In the beginning of the ministry, the team would meet at the complex every second, third and fourth Saturday to hand out bags of snacks to approximately 25-30 children. Untrusting and leery of strangers in their area, many families would not come out at first. There was a very heavy spirit of depression, hopelessness and darkness. The property, at that time, was somewhat rundown with little or no landscaping. Many homes were vacant and boarded up. People would hardly talk or smile. In the weeks to come, little by little, folks were recognizing the ministry team and began to come out each week. Each visit, the team would minister to those who came, asking them if they needed prayer and sharing the love of Jesus with them all. For the fifth Saturday that first month, the team put together a barbeque for all the families. Many came out to eat and the team was able to spend more time building relationships with them. After a couple of months of being at the complex, the people began to be more trusting….even expecting and excited for the team to be there. Today, over a year later, the team is still ministering and taking the Breakfast in a Bag to the children. There are approximately 48 families now, with 70 plus children being fed. Many of the kids are waiting for the team in the parking lot when they arrive, greeting them with smiles and hugs and updates on the awesome things that have been happening in their lives since the previous week. There is a whole new atmosphere in the complex. In addition to improvements in the landscaping, the parking lot being repaved, and repairs being made all around – there is a huge spirit of joy and hope among the people…..of all ages. Many are learning to trust the Lord in their lives and homes….many have gotten jobs….many have given or have rededicated their lives to Jesus. What a blessing to see transformations in progress! People continue to reach out for prayer and fellowship. Children are being taught scriptures each week. Some in the community have even had Bible studies. The hunger for Jesus grows and people are learning to trust, love and show, as well as receive, compassion. The Adelanto West Ministry Team continues to grow with faithful servants, sharing the love of the Lord. The children are still getting their bags on the 2nd through 4th Saturdays; and community get-together’s whenever there is a 5th Saturday in a month. Through the Adelanto West Ministry, Curbside Community Center was birthed. Curbside, working with other ministries, is distributing food to Adelanto West and two (2) additional complexes, 1-2 days a week. As the movement of Christ is flowing through these complexes, the vision and prayer of Curbside is that the Holy Spirit continues to pour out His mercy, grace and love on these complexes, as well as overflowing to the communities nearby and for a shield of protection to be about His people. Curbside is truly blessed to be a part of this amazing movement of Christ! 1 Chronicles 4:10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.
