Current dangers to our nation, in order of immediacy of the threat: 1) Stupidity, whether caused by childhood malnutrition, social pressures, ideological extremism, lead in the water, drug abuse or any other cause, since it stops people from understanding the other threats. 2) The Tea Party -- An often illogical, fundamentalist wing of conservatism, representing a religiously fueled minority in our country, who has no hesitation to cost the rest of us money and functionality to get their way. They are essentially anti-democracy saboteurs. 3) The Republican Party -- a failing major minority political party that was responsible for altering tax structure in such a way as to spread the burden of taxation more onto the middle and lower classes. This anti-tax stance has caused decades of deficit spending, and since it is a minority party, the Republicans have had to cobble together fringe groups such as the Tea Party, Dominionists, and single issue voters in exchange for enough votes to attain power. Their policies have therefore been poorly integrated into our economy and society -- and they have unleashed dangerous fringe groups by giving them politcal legitimacy. Current Republican policy to derail the economy and well-being of the nation in order to acquire power in the confusion, is a major threat to the nation. 4) Asteroids, man-caused climate change, or rogue viruses, other cataclysmic acts of nature, that could have lasting impacts. Not to be confused with simple earthquakes, volcanoes and hurricanes. 5) Muslim extremism, because the only way it would bring us to our knees is if we are stupid about dealing with it (see point 1).
