When the steam freighter White Swan stops to load water and wood, the rats attack and some manage to board the ship on its way back to England. Back home in England the rats continue to cause mayhem and terror for the population. This novel is great fun, I loved the idea and its execution. It has plenty of suspense and the setting on the island and the ship drew me in right away. It may not be perfect but it is a very strong likeable and enjoyable effort and had me pleasantly spooked and entertained in a way that I have not had the pleasure of for some time. Should be appealing to fans of horror and adventure stories.
