Cyclist injured after water tossed BY LAUREL BLACK lblack@paducahsun Charges are pending against a juvenile and an 18-year-old after one of them allegedly threw water on a pair of cyclists from the window of a truck. The Mayfield Police Department said in its initial report that the pair are suspects in the incident, which occurred around 8:10 p.m. Monday in Mayfield. The 18-year-old, who was the front passenger in the truck, admitted to emptying a cup into the road but adamantly denied purposely throwing the water at bicyclists Tim and Candy Franklin, according to the report. Police said the Franklins told them they were riding down West Broadway when the truck drove past and the front passenger yelled something and threw the liquid. Tim Franklin, the lead bicyclist, told police he swerved after the liquid hit him. Wife Candy Franklin also swerved and then fell off her bike, suffering injuries to her right palm, left leg, left elbow and forearm. Her cell phone was damaged, and her bike sustained damage, according to the report. Tim Franklin said he and his wife were wearing safety vests and helmets, and their bikes were equipped with headlights and blinking red lights. He said he plans to press charges. We just want to raise the awareness that there are consequences if you think its OK to throw stuff at people, Tim Franklin said. The Mayfield incident occurred the same night that Hunter Puryear, the 19-year-old who admitted to throwing a cup of ice and liquid at cyclist Haydon Corky Bloodworth, formally apologized to Bloodworth and cycled alongside him in Paducah.
