(D) - Okay folks, we need your help. Our beloved Loki is having a serious health struggle right now. About three weeks ago we noticed that he seemed to be having a really hard time breathing. At one point, he was even panting. We got him to the doctor the next morning, they did a battery of tests and x-rays and determined that he was suffering from pleurisy. Pleurisy is a build-up of fluid between the chest wall and the lungs. It has a few causes, but the doc said that Loki has an enlarged heart, which is very common in large geriatric cats, and that is the likely culprit. He actually drained 300ml of fluid out of Lokis chest. Thats almost a full soda can! When he came home, Loki looked significantly thinner through the chest, was breathing fine and had more pep in his step. The doc sent him home with a prescription for a diuretic and hoped that that would help him eliminate the fluid a little better. Loki had been doing great until today. LuAnn noticed that he was struggling to breathe again and made him an appointment for 9:40 tomorrow morning. When I got home this evening, I found him in his usual spot in the papers, panting again. He has since gotten up, had his dinner and is now sitting on my lap purring. Right now, he seems perfectly normal. His doctor said that if the symptoms reoccur it could be difficult to treat. We are not religious people, but we and Loki will gladly accept what ever support you can offer, be it prayers, good thoughts, Power of the Paw, chants, virtual headbonks or what have you. I am taking the morning off work to take him in. I will update you all on the situation when we know more.
