D+D Under 10(2003) Tristar’s Under 10 team gave two impressive performances this Saturday at Magee on their return from the mid-season break. The first game against Foyle Harps began well, but by the interval, Harps found themselves two goals ahead. The half-time team-talk focussed on the positives, and the young lads’ response was fantastic. Closing down all over the pitch, Harps found it more difficult to get time on the ball. Lee Harkin pulled one back, and this galvanised the Tristar team. Aided by the resolute Tristan Harkin and Aaron Curran in defence, Lee quickly scored an equalising goal. Tristar’s MVP then put his team ahead, but he was not finished yet. With minutes left, Lee won a free kick 20 yards from the net. He took responsibility for the set-piece, and helped himself to an incredible fourth goal, into the top corner beyond the helpless keeper.Tristar were in a confident mood, and did not drop a gear against Brightstars in the second match. Bobby Deane and Keelan Doherty were causing havoc on the wings, and the chances soon began to pile up. The tenacious Ryan McBrearty opened the scoring, but Lee Harkin wasn’t finished yet. He helped himself to another hat-trick, including a goal direct from a corner kick, and another through a front post header. Goalkeeper Shane Kyle added to his tally of clean sheets, aided by confident handling from a series of tricky corners from the opposition. Tristar’s management team claimed afterwards that this was the most complete hour of football the 2003 team have played in the D&D, and hopefully the strong work-rate will continue in the weeks to come.
