DAILY DOSE THE SANJAY DUTT PAROLE PART I DON’T FIGURE - TopicsExpress

DAILY DOSE THE SANJAY DUTT PAROLE PART I DON’T FIGURE This guy Sanjay Dutt has just had his parole extended by one month. I have no hassle with that. To me, he has been mentally kicked around for 20 years and justice delayed (whether guilty to otherwise)is justice denied so in my book he has paid his dues. What I don’t get is why he is being given this benediction when thousands of Indians are undertrial, have sick relatives and don’t get parole with such ease. Actually, they don’t get to go at all. If you have lost the heart to actually keep him incarcerated for these five years, a verdict given when a new generation has matured and doesn’t even know why, then let him go. I think India will be quite forgiving because he has spent half his life being summoned…by now his nerves must be so jangled every time he hears the phone he probably thinks, uh oh back to the court again. If 14 years is a life sentence then this man has been pushed around legally for 20. Since half his sentence is being served at home give him time off for good behavior and stop this farce. Law and its rule and the justice that flows from it must be equal for all. Like I said, let him go, we will live with it. Else, let everyone else with a personal problem also get parole and go home on leave. Don’t make this an exception. That is not justice for the others and certainly not so in a country where you can get picked up on the road by a police crew doing its occasional round up in a jeep and not see the light of day for a year…if not more. Your crime: you were taking a walk but what the heck, you are without the power to hit back. Your day in court does not even come…
