DAILY INDEPENDENT Anambra people won’t elect rabble-rousers – Aghadiuno A political analyst, Tochukwu Aghadiuno, tells Senior Correspondent, ISHAYA IBRAHIM, that the fratricidal war between Governor Peter Obi and Senator Chris Ngige would dwindle the chances of both APGA and APC in the November 16 Anambra governorship election and pave way for the PDP candidate. Excerpts… You are from Anambra State and must have been following the build-up to the gubernatorial election in your home state. Where do you think the pendulum would swing? I am a full-fledged Anambra man and I understand the political nuances in my home state very well. The election is clearly turning out into a three-party affair. That is between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and All Progressives Congress (APC). As a grassroots man, I know that the PDP candidate, Comrade Tony Nwoye, is more on the ground across all the wards of Anambra than all the other candidates. The people of Anambra are tired of the acrimony and battle of attrition between Peter Obi and Chris Ngige. Their 10-year-old endless battle has cost our state hundreds of human lives and billions of naira in destroyed property and man hours. The people of the state have decided to jettison these two men that have refused to give peace a chance, and they are ensuring that the future of Anambra will be entrusted in a young man who is a clear break from this past that has been haunting Anambra. When you refer to this age-old battle between these gentlemen, are you including the recent stampede at the adoration ground in Uke that claimed several lives? What happened at Uke is, to me, the saddest part of my life. I believe the police will thoroughly investigate the incident and find out whether any person has criminal responsibility. But for me, I am more bothered about moral responsibility for the loss of so many lives. There is no place for politics in the house of God. We Catholics believe that the house of God must remain sacred at all times. Taking personal acrimony to the house of God by APGA and APC created the enabling environment for the tragedy that happened. If the house of God had been treated as a sacred place of worship, all the innocent souls that perished will still be alive today. I extend my heartfelt condolences to all the families that lost their loved ones in that very unfortunate episode. Earlier, you said the PDP candidate was a front runner in this election. On what criteria are you basing it? You know that the young man had to tackle the judicial ambush mounted against his candidature. The Supreme Court has once again proved to be the last bastion for the common man by directly declaring him the one and only PDP candidate for the election. I am impressed by the quality of the campaign and canvassing by this young man. He has stated clearly that his emphasis will be on job creation as a weapon for tackling crimes and other societal malaise. This plan is unassailable. We live in a state where unemployment has driven many young men to crimes like kidnapping and ultimately to their untimely death. This vicious cycle must be broken. His plan to work with the President, PDP’s Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, to ensure the immediate utilisation of Onitsha River Port by our traders is the most visionary statement in the entire campaign. This action will create thousands of jobs for our people that will become clearing agents, as well as other services that will support the operation of this port. I must state that Nwoye is the only ‘home boy’ in this election; therefore he understands exactly what our people need and how to provide them. Do you think he has the experience to govern a complex state like Anambra? I will like to refer his opponents to the biblical Solomon and the ageless Methuselah. Obviously, Solomon was the wiser man between the two. Ability to make good judgement on issues is a character trait that comes naturally. Barack Obama’s opponents in the United States presidential election repeated the same message that Obama was too young and inexperienced, but the American people based their votes on the quality of his decisions and not his age. In the course of this campaign, it is actually the old men like Ngige, Obi and Obiano that have shown poor judgement on issues. Governor Obi would not even allow Obiano to talk at a campaign that is supposed to be his. Obiano himself does not help himself, as he uses the small time allocated to him to talk about how he is a big masquerade. Ngige on the other hand has been running round in circles trading insults with Governor Obi. In the midst of all this, it is only Nwoye that has maintained his cool and carefully weighed his words before issuing statements. We the people of Anambra are watching and we know that this young man has good judgement on issues, and that is why we are supporting him and that is why he will clearly win this election @Beluchi 4 NDI NSUGBE IN DIASPORAAA
