DAILY WALK June 27, 2014 BUT WHAT ABOUT THE RULES? (IT’S ALL ABOUT RELATIONSHIP) Oh the rules the rules, how we love the rules. Our Western culture is awash in rules and regulations. We have so many rules that we can’t walk around the block without breaking some law or ordinance. We need lawyers to write contracts and lawyers to interpret contracts and lawyers to break contracts. My grandfather used to do business on a handshake, and any person who broke their word was considered worthless. The New Testament tells us everything we need to know for salvation and it is incredibly simple. However, we have books full of rules that make it so complicated that we get lost in the details. Salvation and the Christian life is all about relationship with Jesus. We open the door of our heart and He comes rushing in. Jesus said it is a free gift which we cannot earn. (See Ephesians 2:8) We cannot enter Heaven unless we are born again—John 3:5-7—and when we open our heart to Jesus the Holy Spirit comes to us and we start a new life in Christ. Sounds too simple doesn’t it? Let’s take a look at Luke 23:42-43. And he was saying, Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom! And He said to him, Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise. What did this thief do to earn salvation? He wasn’t water baptized with the prescribed formula. He didn’t make an alter call and profess his belief. He wasn’t confirmed and he didn’t belong to the “right” church. He wasn’t properly catechized and he didn’t pay his tithes. He was a sinner who opened his heart and cried out to his Savior and he was saved by that same precious blood that was spilled for you and me. He simply received God’s incredible mercy. Can you and I tell others about that mercy? Can we share our relationship with Jesus by loving the un-lovable and the un-deserving? May Jesus Kiss Your Heart Bill ambassadorsofjoy.org
