DANA MURDER SUSPECTS KNOWN By Nalinee Seelal Saturday, May 24 2014 ACTING Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams yesterday confirmed that suspects have been identified in the murder of State Prosecutor and former Independent Senator Dana Seetahal SC. Williams was however hesitant to reveal how many suspects have been identified by the special team of senior officers probing the high profile murder. However, he did indicate that the police are working around the clock to bring closure to the probe. Tomorrow marks three weeks since Seetahal was ambushed and shot to death inside her sports utility vehicle in Woodbrook shortly after she left a casino. “Yes I can confirm that the police have identified suspects, but I do not want to say how many suspects have been identified and who they are. But I can reveal that we are pursuing this probe with the intention of bringing it to closure in the shortest possible time,” Acting Commissioner Williams told Newsday. Also yesterday, head of the Homicide Investigations Bureau, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Wayne Dick — who was confirmed in the position of ACP on Thursday — said he has chosen to stay silent on the status of the probe because he feels any disclosure at this time could hurt the investigations. “I want to solve this murder and I know there is only one way to solve it...as such I have no information to put out to the public at this time. You must observe and you must appreciate that two high profile murders within the last two weeks have been solved among five other murders, and that was possible because of the manner in which my team and I conducted the investigations. And I hope that the Homicide Investigations Bureau is supported in conducting of the investigations in the matter involving Miss Dana Seetahal so that it can be solved,” Dick said. Newsday understands that the police have identified six persons believed to be linked to the murder of Seetahal and the persons are from East, West and Central Trinidad. They are all linked to a religious organisation and are believed to be members of criminal gangs. Investigators have been using state of the art technology to assist them in gathering the necessary information to bring suspects to justice. Three weeks ago, Seetahal whose last legal brief was as part of the Prosecution team in the ongoing Vindra Naipaul-Coolman murder trial, was shot dead as she sat in her SUV along Hamilton Holder Street in Woodbrook.
