DAVE CLARK 5 DOCUMENTARY ON PBS-TV TONIGHT! - 7:00 PM Get Ready for Dave Clark Fives Second Invasion Urged in 2008 by actor Tom Hanks to remind Americans of his influential role in rock history, Mr. Clark set to work self-producing a two-hour documentary—The Dave Clark Five and Beyond: Glad All Over— that PBS will air as part of its Great Performances series tonight- April 8 at 7:00 pm. He also has completed a memoir and is considering releasing the bands complete recordings on CD. While the DC5 (as the band was known) recorded 24 U.S. hits—including Glad All Over, Because and Cant You See That Shes Mine—it endured a terrifying crush of fan hysteria whipped up by Beatlemania and has been nearly forgotten in the U.S. A fierce competitor or a shrewd dealmaker, what stops you is his voice—a dramatic, melodic sound that in the early-1960s helped the Dave Clark Five successfully battle the Beatles for millions of U.K. and U.S. fans. They sold over 100 million records and would make the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In the documentary, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Ozzy Osbourne, Gene Simmons, Stevie Wonder and other rockers say that while they were in awe of the Beatles, they were inspired by the DC5s meatier sound and brasher attack. Even Paul McCartney offers praise. ***Read more and see a four-minute film clip of the special below:
