DAVID MARK RALLIES SUPPORT FOR EDUCATION, COMMENDS ELIZADE VARSITY Senate President, David Mark has submitted that breakthrough in Nigeria’s education can only be achieved if well-meaning Nigerians can join hands with the Government to provide education of modern quality that would equip the younger generation for the challenges ahead. Senator Mark who expressed the opinion during his visit to Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, emphasized that Government should not be left alone with the responsibility of regaining the lost glory of Nigeria’s education. The Lawmaker commended the quality of the facilities in the University, describing it as ‘unusual’ in the country. He admitted that he could not believe that a university in the country can boast of such infrastructures that can stand with those in the advanced countries of the world. While congratulating the students on their choice of the University, Senator Mark enjoined them to make a wise use of the modern facilities that the University has put in place for them. He added that the ‘world standard’ facilities, in addition to the serenity of the Campus would give them equal experience with their colleagues in the developed countries. The Legislator admonished the students to shun cultism and other anti-social vices that can jeopardize their future, reminding them that the Country is banking on them for development. Senator Mark who wondered how an individual could contribute that much to education by single handedly putting in place a university of such standard, called on other Nigerians to take a cue from the Founder of the University, Chief Michael Ade.Ojo, in order to liberate the education sector. Also speaking during a separate visit to the University, the Registrar, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Dibu Ojerinde described e-learning as the way forward for the Country’s quest for advancement in education. Commenting on the University’s Computer laboratories after his inspection, Prof.Ojerinde revealed that the air-conditioned Computer laboratories are the models for his Board’s intention to implement full computer-based Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. He sounded out the University on the use of its laboratories for the Board’s next examination. He also requested for the use of the Institution’s air-conditioned lecture halls for Paper and Pencil test, stating that candidates perform better under such conditions. The Registrar lauded the naturalness of the University and the architectural design of the Campus. He reminded the students that there would be no excuse for failure, especially with the availability of the ‘intimidating’ facilities.
