DAY 25 - AMSTERDAM Our final day. Up early and to our final beautiful breakfast. The crew actually let us serve ourselves as they didnt care anymore if we caught Ebola and died. We had a lovely breakfast. We did the rounds and there were lots of hugs and kisses. We made some really good friends. The boys bonded with the Mafia and have organised a fishing trip up north with them. They have to undergo a few mafia type initiation rituals before they are allowed on board. We have organised a catch up with Bruce, Cheryl, Pete and Karen to talk about whats been happening in The Bold and the Beautiful. Hopefully the new Ridge has settled in by then and Quinn had died in a really nasty accident. Fingers crossed. Ivan and Jan the New Zealanders were great fun as were the gang who were Vietnam Veterans. Jeff and Wendy ( who we found out on the last day name was actually Bronwyn) from Geelong. And thats just a few of the great people we met. We all said good bye in 8 different languages. We loved the cruise, people and the magnificent towns, cities and sights we visited and seen. We will miss them briefly. We caught a taxi to the train station and speaking fluent Dutch found our platform without too much drama. As we are sitting waiting for our train another train pulled up opposite us. Water was gushing out the bottom. Julie, Mark and I were fascinated for some reason in this (Andrew had once again wandered off so was missing this amazing spectacle) next minute a hunk of whitish stuff and another unidentified mysterious object landed on the track in front of us. God forbid it was the toilet waste straight from the train. It was toilet paper and a big massive poo sitting as proud as punch ontop of the track. We were now disgusted and still watching the poo. Next minute a train ran over the poo and it just Squished everywhere. By this stage we were all dry retching but still sadly watching. After the train left we looked down the track and there was waste everywhere. The poor buggers who have to do work on the tracks. We bordered the train and headed to Paris. The train was fantastic. It got up to,speeds of 300 km an hour. Andrew and Mark were besides themselves. It was a bizarre feeling seeing us speeding pass cars that were flying down the highway. We thought we would probably starve and get lost as we had no one to feed us or tell us what to do or where to go. Luckily for us we had been booked on first class so we were given food and drink all the way to Paris. We finally arrived in Paris. Walked out the front and honest to god we just stood there like stunned mullets. What do we do, where do,we go. Oh frigg we had no idea. Luckily for us we looked dumb so this Con man came up and said do you need a Taxi, follow me. I had thoughts of TAKEN the movie, so off we trotted following the axe murderer. Luckily for us he just took us straight across the road to the taxi rank and charged us €5. So off we head to our hotel where we were to meet Garry Pinner and Sharon Pfeiffer who were doing the rest of the trip with Julie and Andrew. Booked in and of course lucky Phil AKA Julie who had booked on bookings room was hilarious. 2 storey with this tiny spiral staircase that you couldnt even take your luggage up so you had to leave all you clothes downstairs in tiny lounge. Bedroom was in the gabled roof so it was 2 single beds separated by a 5 foot wall with a cut out so you could see each others heads and throw things at each other during the night. We couldnt stop laughing. Julie kept saying this is nothing like the picture on the internet. Our room which I booked direct with the Hotel was in the newly renovated section. Lovely fresh clean which 2 rooms it was Huge. Ours was overlooking a beautiful outdoor glassed roofed area with French doors etc. Julies was looking into a dirty side street. Priceless. We were doing a tour tonight and had to get ourselves to the pick up point Julie though we should walk there to see how long it took us. Thank god we did as our booking had been cancelled as our travel agent hadnt paid for it. We went into panic mode. The girl was absolutely fantastic. She got us on another tour that was similar for the following night. Only problem was we had to pay another €485 per couple. So we are now doing a dinner cruise, Eiffel Tower visit and then onto the Moulin Rouge. We were all disappointed but hey what can you do. We all decided to head to the Louvre garden area to have a look around. OMG what can you say about Paris. My favourite city in the world I think. Julie had been to Paris twice before, loved the buildings but hated the people. I said I will show you my people. We did not meet a nasty person all day. The boys wanted a beer so I took them to a cafe in the Jardin Des Tuileries gardens that Sophie and I had discovered on our last trip to Paris. The 6 of us had a fantastic time just sitting there having a couple of cold ones and watching Parisian life pass us by. We could see the Eiffel Tower, up to the louvre and to the Champs Élysées. We all had manic grins on our faces. Our waiter was joking with us, I looked to Julie and said do you like my Paris yet and she said yes. I then took them on a little tour as its the same area that mum, sophie and I had stayed 2 years ago. Up past the Place De La Concorde, I showed them where the President lived, up Rue Royale past Maxims the famous restaurant. Stopped for Julie to get some macaroons at the famous macaroon shop (we were lucky, not that busy only about 200 queued up). She couldnt stop smiling. Back up past the Madeleine Church and then past the Grand Opera and back to our hotel. We all had a quick tidy up then out for dinner. Found a great little restaurant around the corner and had a lovely night. All crashed early. Looking forward to tomorrow Love Meagan, Mark, Julie, Andrew, Gaz and Shaz. Xxx
