DAY 3 -- I have been nominated by Lyn Bradbeer to take part in a five day positivity challenge. I’m making a commitment to take full control of my mind and emotions by refusing to dwell on any negative emotions or disempowering thoughts for five consecutive days. And each day to post 3 positive thoughts, and nominate 3 more people to take the challenge. HOWEVER, my page showed so little activity yesterday that I think my friends are hiding out to avoid the nomination. So, no nominees, only volunteers. I’ve nominated a total of nine people, still requesting six others, please let me know if you’d like to join in! Day 3 -- my three things to be grateful for are: 1. I’m grateful for the animals who have touched my life! Particularly mammals and birds, of course. One of my favorite memories was working in a front garden in Grasonville, Maryland, living adjacent to a brackish creek and marshes. A great egret, pure white, swooped down with loud wings, to land about six feet from me, most likely to inspect what food item I was after, digging so industriously. (I was planting red azaleas.) I felt privileged to be so close and so trusted by such a magnificent and huge bird (a little over 3 feet tall!), and I was happy to talk to him or her. And I feel privileged to have these two parrots, with whom I have little in common other than enjoying salads and fruit, and yet they seem to like me. When I awaken they hear me stir and begin to call to me. When I leave their field of vision, they set up a storm and I hear myself reassuring them that I’ll be right back. Junie sometimes dances to the sound of my voice (and to Ana R’s). They know feeding time and want to be fed along with the dogs; they know treats and look jealously on until I produce a treat for them. Like me, they like things that glitter, and thats why I have these two -- at the pet store Redbud in an instant picked a gemstone out of my ring, I thought it was a sign that he and his cage mate were the right ones. They know the sound of my van engine. When I’m on Woodland, ready to turn onto Kingston, Junie starts her shrieking, even when she’s in the house, and I can hear it from the van and it always makes me smile. They and the “keets” seem happy enough and I’m pleased to keep them that way. 2. Project Runway! I enjoy the creativity, the fashion, I like agreeing and disagreeing with the choices of winning looks, watching the finalists preparing for Fashion Week. I admire Tim Gunn. I even like the drama! Best of all it inspires me to want to design for myself. Season 13 started Thursday night. 3. Do I love my friends? YES! Do I love everything about every friend? No. But I celebrate those talents, opinions, quirks, strengths, ideas that I enjoy, and realize our differences, and sometimes I really don’t understand their opposing viewpoints! But I continue to value and love them for those opinions and emotions that make us click and try to at least understand their opposing viewpoints. It would be a boring world to go around looking in a mirror all the time!
