DAY 311~ RICH; Mummy, are they rich? asks 11 year old Pandora. She is talking about some relatives who live off island. Not really, I say. Why? Because theyre always getting new things. Well I think were rich. We have this, I say, gesturing expansively at the landscape. We have the sea, the sand, these trees filled with birds, the stars at night, a bright moon, small winding roads. No malls to buy things, no light pollution to block our view, no factories to smog our air. We are rich, dripping with wealth in fact. Youre right mummy. I like it here. I feel rich.
