DAY NINE ~ RECLINING TWIST Good Morning! Reclined twist is used in power and yin practice. It is usually done at the end of practice to restore equilibrium in the nervous system and release tension in the spine. It has been reported that bringing the bent knee more toward the chest may relieve sciatica. This pose also massages all the stomach organs. Staying in this twist for longer periods of time is the key! To get into the pose, lay on your back and pull your right knee into your chest, keeping your left leg long. Gently drop the right knee over to the left. Your hips should stack, right hip on top of left. If your knee doesnt make it to the ground, place a pillow or blanket under it to support but not take away the twist. Now bring your awareness to your shoulders. Your right shoulder may be lifting off the floor. Gently tuck your shoulders over to the right so both shoulder blades are resting on the floor. Stretch both arms out like a T and look to your left. Repeat for the right side. Hold 3-5 minutes on each side. To come out of the pose on each side, slowly roll onto your back and hug the knees into the chest to release the sacrum ad lumbar. When you hug your knees into your spine, gently rock back and forth to massage your lower back. Practice gratitude today, gratitude for wherever your body is, however your poses look. Instead of judging where you are or the different parts of your body that arent how you want them to be, send it some love! Its doing the best it can in this moment!
