DAYLIGHT ROBBERY. ROBB DOWNS ALBIES IN SEMI-FINAL THRILLER. A beautiful spring sunday has been capped off with Robb College 1st XV advancing to the NERU Grandfinal after beating St Alberts College 17-10. It was the 6th time Robb has beaten Albies this year, yet this was the Colleges most hard-fought win so far. Albies ran out to a quick 10-0 lead with a try and a penalty after employing pressure through questionable scrum tactics and fast rushing defense. Robb hit back through some hard hits and then started to find some dominance in the scrum and this led to them starting to assert themselves around the field. Inside Centre Hamish Dickson stepped inside Albies 5/8 James Reynolds and tore through the midfield with an angled run 50 metres from the goal line. He offloaded back inside to captain Tom Kent who galloped to score under the posts. David James missed the conversion meaning that Robb entered the second half with plenty to do. The Robb boys came out firing in the second half. Prop Will Chaffey was making breaks left right and centre, and tackling with vegeance. He finished the game with 0 metres, 0 tackles, 0 tries for the season and 5 tightheads. Mr Crossfit David James pounced on a loose pass from Albies and ran 30m to make it 10-10. He failed to convert and the game started to grind with scores tied. Jonesy missed another penalty but Robb never faltered. They worked their way down field and although they made some handling errors they did not allow Albies to exit their half through bone-rattling defence. After continous pressure Robb flyhalf Lachie Lomu Fletcher duck and weaved through the midfield to score the final try. He converted his own to make it 17-10. Albies tried to throw the ball around in the last few minutes yet Robbs rock hard defense held on. It was a game of many handling errrors but the boys in green in white made up for it through passion and intensity shown by all players. Thankyou very much to all the supporters who turned out, including the new Robb Wives fanclub. The victory means that Robb advances to the Grandfinal against the Armidale Blues who defeated the Barbarians 45-20 in the other semifinal. In the context of happenings regarding Robbs accomodation next year this was a pivotal display of why Robb belongs in the New England and must be fostered by UNE. So this Saturday the Robb boys play the last 80 minutes for the season. A massive crowd filled with green white will be on display and everyone is encourage to jump on the bandwagon. A friday night dinner for parents and players is being organised and a champayne brunch for the supporters on the Saturday. This is Robbs first grandfinal since 2010 and could be their first premiership since 2006. Its going to be a huge weekend so get excited! #rollonrobbrugby #2015NERUGF #ridetheram #carntherobbers From the Gossipbager xoxo
