DEAR FRIENDS, This weekend, Brent Davis shared some news about his and Lisa’s future with all those at the Grayslake Campus. If you were not able to attend, we wanted you to be able to hear this news for yourself. Over the last several months, Lisa and I have sensed God moving in a way that we were not anticipating. After much prayer and reflection, weve been led to the conviction that our time serving on staff at The Chapel has come to an end. We neither saw this coming nor made the decision lightly, but we have tremendous peace about it. As you might imagine, it’s been saddening to come to that conclusion. Surprisingly, however, it’s also been quite relieving. To put it succinctly, I believe that—going forward—I’m not the best fit for the Grayslake Campus Pastor role, and the role isn’t the best fit for me. In addition to that, the past several years have been a challenging season for me and my family. So, along with wanting the best for our campus, I want the best for my family, and I’m confident that this is also the right decision for us. I’d love to address some things that aren’t behind this decision. I haven’t had a moral failure. I wasn’t pressured to resign. There’s no rift between me and those who provide leadership to me. We love The Chapel and the leadership, and we deeply desire to see greater Kingdom fruit going forward. Again, as you might imagine, many different factors played a part in the decision, but the primary factors are connected to ministry fit, as explained above. We’re not sure what’s next for us. At this time, I anticipate that I will take a hiatus from vocational ministry. I’m not closing the door on that forever, but foresee having a different vocation in the next season of life. We also anticipate that we will move back to the southeast, which is where both Lisa and I are from, and where our families still reside. I am deeply grateful for my time at The Chapel. I’m grateful to Scott and Jeff for calling out leadership in me and for entrusting me with such great opportunities over the years. I’m grateful for how other leaders have invested in me and for the staff and volunteers I’ve had the opportunity to serve with in my tenure here. I’m grateful for the love and friendship that you have extended to me and my family over the years. I’m grateful for how youve entrusted me to be your pastor, thereby granting me the incredible privilege of having a front row seat to see what God has done in so many of your lives. I do not take that privilege lightly, and I pray I never take it for granted. What God has done in my life through The Chapel has forever changed me, and this season of my life will always hold a special place in my heart. I’m excited about the future of the Grayslake campus and The Chapel as a whole. I truly believe that God will bring even more life change under the leadership of the next campus pastor, and I fully expect that we’ll all continue to marvel at how we get to be a part of seeing his Kingdom advance.
