DEATH ON A BED OF ROSES EPISODE FIVE She couldnt believe what she just saw. One of the scenes in her favorite movie American Beauty had just repeated itself in her own house, her home, on her matrimonial bed. She told herself it was just a dream, no, it didnt happen, just an ordinary dream. She ran out of the house and fished out her cell phone from her handbag and dialed Mirabel’s number. “Hey Gracy, what a surprise” “Erm...Mi...mi..mirabel...I...I...” the shock was registered in her voice and she panted vigorously. Mirabelle couldnt make anything out of what she was saying and so she tried to calm her down. “Gracy, are you okay?” “Just calm down and tell me what the problem is” She tried her possible best to relay the event of the and what she just saw to Mirabelle. Twenty minutes later, the police arrived with an ambulance. The ambulance parked right in front of their apartment with the trunk opened and facing the entrance. Greg’s mom and the brother James arrived almost the same time with the police. Mirabel had called them immediately she ended the call with her. They spotted Mirabel holding Gracy who was frantically wailing but headed straight into the apartment instead following the police, what they saw shocked them has it had shocked Gracy and Amira fainted. Lying in bed was Greg’s still cold body sprawled on the bed with legs and hands in awkward directions, back slightly arched and head turned to one angle and scattered around him on the bed, and on his body were rose petals. Mirabel held on to Gracy tightly with tears streaming down their faces while James was holding his mum who just gained consciousness and now crying. The four of them watched as Greg’s body was wheeled out of the house on a stretcher into the waiting ambulance. A policeman strolled towards them and asked to speak with James. He excused himself. “I’m sorry about what happened” The policeman stretched out his hand for a handshake. James managed to mutter a “thanks” “we would love to do some questioning but not today, I’d ask you all to drop by at the station tomorrow if that would be okay by you” “I will tell others” The policeman left him to join his mum while he walked toward his colleagues and they watched the ambulance as it left for the morgue. It was at this point that Gracy snapped her head up like she suddenly remembers something and looked straight into Mirabel’s eyes. With a questioning look on her face, she asked with all seriousness that begs for an answer ”do you think my husband killed himself?” Mirabel was dumbfounded by the question, it sounded weird to her ears, as if she needed more reason to let down tears, and she couldn’t control the tears that ran down her face. Just like a flash, memories started rushing in. All the time they spent together, the places they went together, jokes they shared, secrets and thoughts they told each other. She tried to block the memories and concentrate on herself, she felt like strangling Gracy right there as her hatred for her rose but then she controlled herself and muttered “my best friend is gone” and in response to Gracy’s question, she shook her head and said ”I don’t know” in a low voice that she could barely hear herself. EPISODE SIX AMIRA BROWN (GREG’S MOTHER) Greg was a sweet child, full of life, so lovely. He loved people a lot, he doesn’t fight nor does he engage with bad people or shady deals. Even if there was something disturbing him, he would either talk to Mimi his best friend or his brother if it was something he found difficult to discuss with his wife. I’m not going to accept that my son committed suicide. He couldnt have had the mind, what for? What could possibly be going on with him that would warrant such despicable act? He couldnt have taken his life own life. She shook her head and wiped off her tears. I agree the whole scene I saw looked somehow suicidal but I don’t believe it. I want to get to the bottom of this and confirm if it was truly suicide and know his probable reasons. And those rose petals?” She picked up her phone and dialed a number and asks them to start full investigation as soon as possible. I will pay any amount to get to the root of this. DETECTIVE CRAIG OF THE STATE CID (Criminal Investigation Department) When Greg’s mother Amira called to start the investigation with no delay, as the assigned detective to this case, I called on the close relatives and scheduled a meeting with each of them. The wife was called in first for interrogation because we assumed she saw him last. ************************************************************************************ Clad in a black flowing gown, Gracy walked into the station and confirmed she had an appointment. She was led to a small room that had a sign “INTERROGATION ROOM” plastered on the door. In the room was a single desk with two chairs placed behind it in opposition manner. Detective Craig entered almost immediately “Good morning Ma’am” he greeted her “Good morning detective” “I’m sorry about the death of your husband” “Thank you detective” she responded calmly He offered her a sit and took the other sit, he wasted no time to begin his questioning. “On the day that your husband died was he not supposed to be at work?” “He wasn’t feeling too well so he took the day off” she continued and explains how the day went till the moment she got back home and found her husband dead. “Ma’am, looking at the scene, you would agree with me that it looked like your husband committed suicide because we didn’t see any sign of bruises on him and i can ascertain that there was no struggle.” “Yes” “Do you think he killed himself?” she broke down in tears “No, my husband was a strong man even emotionally. He knew how to handle things better” she said as she dabbed her face with a handkerchief “So if it wasn’t suicide then maybe someone killed him by suffocation and poured the rose petals on him or what do you think?” “I don’t know about that. The door lock wasn’t broken as at the time I got home.” “Okay, no forceful entrance and we also know that he has no mark depicting force on his body either” he said and continued with his questioning. “Did he at any point in time tell you he was afraid of something or some people?” “No” “Did you notice any sign of depression in his attitude?” “No, he was a very busy person, always at work so if there was any sign it’s possible I missed it but I don’t think there was any”. The interrogation went on and on revolving around the possibility of suicide. About forty-five minutes later, she was allowed to leave. But before she left, she asked the detective not to leave any stone unturned.
