DECEMBER 22ND, 2014 (Monday): On this day in 1960, Jean-Michel Basquiat was born. Basquiat was an artist, musician, and producer. Hes best known as SAMO, a graffiti artist who wrote social commentaries in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York. By the 1980s he was exhibiting paintings in galleries and museums internationally. Basquiat used his painting s to attacks the power structure and systems of racism. In 1983, Basquiat produced a 12 rap single featuring Hiphop artists Rammelizee and K-Rob. Today, he is referenced by many in Hiphop but few own his works; Jay-Z, Kanye West, Rick Ross, ASAP Rocky, J. Cole, Kidz in the Hall and Nicki Minaj, among others.
