My highest regards goes to the almighty God, the alpha and omega, the eternal rock of ages, who have made this day possible. It is indeed a memorable day for us because right from when the pendulum of our academic odyssey in this great citadel of knowledge was displaced, we have never ceased to look forward to this day with great delight; a day of the manifestation of glorious exodus; when we will lift our heads high with the glorious creed that “we came, we saw and we conquered”. it is my pleasure to inform you that this academic journey which started years ago has barely about three weeks to a successful ending. Our testimony will not be complete, if we do not acknowledge the fact that, not all who were matriculated to swim through this ocean of higher education successfully reached this finishing line (verge of graduation), while some who were spiritually vibrant loss their glow, some others where rusticated, a percentage were withdrawn due to poor academic performance, sadly along the way, some strong and brilliant swimmers died. However despite the series of death, we did not loss anybody to the cold hands of death. We came in like raw materials but now we are going out of this noble book industry and seminary, well refined, reformed, repositioned and renewed intellectually, spiritually, socially and other ramifications. However our experience through this intellectual industry has been an omnibus of trails and triumph, tears and testimonies, surplus and scarcity, series of strike, TDB’s (till day break), challenges, mosquito bites, brain cracking examinations, hunger (nickname 010) but in all these the almighty God saw us through to this point, that’s why our song today is ‘over and over, again and again God is faithful’. To my fellow graduating students, I warmly congratulate you for attaining this academic height; it’s remarkable, isn’t it? Speaking for most of us, I can confidently say that four years went faster than we ever imagined. We remembered being freshmen (and women) and thinking about how long university would be, but the thing is, I remember thinking about that as if, it was last week. It all happened so fast. All of those nights we spent cramming for the test the next morning, all of those books we read, the friendships/relationships, we began, ended and mended, and all of the wonderful and terrible experiences we have had throughout the university have led us to this day. As we stand on the threshold of what is called “real life”, it is pertinent for me to extol the crucial importance of two virtues: vision and knowledge. Vision is the bridge between the present and future, vision is the lens that interprets the events of our life, a man without vision is a man without future. A man without a future will always return to his past. Dr Myles Munroe postulated that ‘I think that the greatest gift, God ever gave to man is not the gift of sight but the gift of vision. Sight is a function of the eyes, but vision is a function of the heart. When a person doesn’t have a vision, they live by their eyes. That means he lives by what he sees. That’s one of the reasons why people are so depressed and that’s why the future never becomes a reality’. Vision is a source of hope; it’s the source of courage; it’s the source of perseverance in the midst of difficulty. On the other hand is- knowledge; knowledge is the wings upon which vision flies, knowledge is power; knowledge liberates and keeps you in charge; you cannot achieve beyond your resource capacity; the difference between you and your equals is knowledge. Learning is a lifelong process, strive to know, continue to read and acquire information no matter the pains. I assure you, that if you can firmly grip these tools of vision and knowledge, the sky is going to be your starting point. At this juncture, I want to pause and wish each and every graduating student success in whatever endeavour they choose to pursue. I hope you will be the best in whatever you dream to do, I hope you will meet people that will inspired and help you to achieve that dream, I hope you will live a long life to fulfill that dream, I hope that at the end of the day, you will be proud of your dream, I hope we will all meet at the top testifying about our dreams and if at the end of the day, you are not proud of your dream, I hope you will have the courage to start all over again, ultimately, I hope you will depend on God to see you through life’s journey. Please be reminded that the society in which we are going into is more demanding and challenging than the campus life. To our brethren who we are temporarily leaving behind, I have wracked my mind and heart for what I ought to say to you today. I asked myself what I wished I had known in my 100 level, and what important lessons I have learnt in the 5 years of my sojourning in this citadel of knowledge. One answer came to fore- your best, give your best towards living a balanced life; be Saintly Scholar indeed; be a 3600 student; be a first class student of both the bible and the books. First, yield your best to the lord, give God the central place in your life; ‘Give up your best to the master: Give of the strength of your youth; Clad in salvation’s full armour, Join in the battle for truth’. Channel your efforts towards rendering services to God, cooperate with your God given leaders operating at their respective capacities, let’s allow holiness and love to reign in the fellowship, in doing that, also give your best to your academics, strive for academic laurels within the ambits of the strength of your best. I challenge you that making first class and topping your faculties and departments is not an impossibility, let us strive while time permit, so that God’s name will be glorify and preaching the gospel will becomes easy. However, be reminded that, if you delay, time will not, a time of reckoning is fast approaching; our sojourning in this academic land is very short, so please give your best, so that you don’t regret it at the end of the day. You can do this, by appropriating this formula; B- Bible (keep the bible in your heart, house and hand) E- Encouragement (there are bound to be challenges, so you need courage. Always encourage yourself) S- Studious (hard work is the bedrock of success. Study your books seriously) T- Time management (so many events will call for your time. Don’t waste your time but rather invest it) In conclusion, we must humbly acknowledge the efforts of our spiritual leaders through their teachings, guidance, rebuke, encouragement, prayers, love and fatherly counsel, we became better person. We sincerely pray that God will reward you abundantly in Jesus name. Amen. We also sincerely appreciate the priceless contributions and true fellowship from the DLCF, BSU family. May the lord bless you richly in Jesus name. Amen. It’s actually difficult to say good bye, to people who have not just become our friends, companion, brothers or sisters but who have become part of us, however, today’s occasion further reiterate the age long aphorism that ‘we meet to part and we part to meet’, instead of saying good bye, we will rather say, see you again because if we are not opportune to meet here on earth again, let’s all strive to meet in heaven but before we quit this stage in the next few weeks, we would leave a challenge to you as our last word: only one life, it will soon be past and only what is done for Christ will last, let’s labour faithfully while there is time, we just have few years on campus and it will soon be past. Please let’s bear one another burden and let brotherly love continue. We love you all. Thanks for your audience.
