DELTA 2015: OGBORU DUMPS DPP FOR LP ***Says The slogan of the DPP is dead, it is now Labour Party*** The speculated move by Chief Great Ogboru, former leader of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), to the Labour Party, (LP) has finally been laid to rest as the Peoples General at the weekend in Ozoro, Isoko-North Local Council Area of Delta State, formally announced the death of the DPP as party in state, with his move to Labour Party to pursue his 2015 governorship aspiration. Ogboru told DPP loyalists that the party had been swallowed up by the Labour Party, under a beneficial merger that would fast-track their political aspirations in the state. He said: “The slogan of the DPP is dead, it is now Labour Party”. As part of a subtle campaign towards the 2015 governorship election, which Ogboru would contest on the platform of the LP, he visited Ozoro, country-home of former Special Adviser to Delta State Governor on Security and eloquent Niger Delta youth leader, Chief Fred Obey, where he was received by tumultuous crowd, who thronged Obey’s home. He was accompanied by key leaders of the DPP, including the Delta State Chairman, Tony Ezeagu; Emmanuel Ogoru, the Delta-South vice chairman of the party, among others. Ogboru was immensely philosophical as he addressed the people, drawing from Biblical morality tales to convince the party followers on why they must be steadfast and never lose hope in their quest for the “promised land” under the Labour Party. He said: “Do not despair, do not shed tears, do not have any regret because with God, all things are possible”. The former DPP leader said his political journey to governorship of Delta State had been very long, just like the Israelite journey. He said there were times he gave himself a hard thought whether all the struggles were worth the efforts. He recalled how he moved from the SRC to the DPP and now, to the Labour Party, noting that the DPP was not moving to the Labour Party throwing away its asset. “All we have done is to change clothes and put on new garment, but we did not throw away our characteristics, we are bringing these values into the Labour Party”, he added. Ogboru disclosed that any moment from now, membership registration would commence, as according to him, there were enough special cards for all members. Earlier, Obey, who described Ogboru as the most down-to-earth governorship aspirant he has ever met, said the people of Delta State had suffered bad leadership for too long, adding that there was need for a change. He solicited the people’s support for Ogboru whom he called “the people’s general”. The party’s Chairman in Isoko-North Local Council, Pastor Sunday Agese, described the political travails of Ogboru as those of a “moral man that finds himself in an immoral society”.
