DEMBARE MUST BE STOPPED - MAPHEPHA SIBANDA “IT’S high time we stopped Dynamos’ dominance over us.” These were the words of former Highlanders manager and chairman Ernest “Maphepha” Sibanda, the last Bosso chairman to lead them to victory against the Harare giants back in 2006. In that year, Highlanders, with Methembe Ndlovu as coach and Maphepha as chairman, Highlanders posted a 1-0 first-round win in Harare and followed that up with a 2-0 win at Barbourfields Stadium on their way to the league title, an accolade that has eluded them since then. “This match has nothing to do with the coaches or manager, no, it’s all about the players themselves. They must know what it means to wear that black and white jersey, especially when playing against Dynamos,” said Maphepha. He said as long as the boys’ mentality was not ready for DeMbare and they treated them with some respect, it would not matter even if Peter Dube, the Highlanders chairman, was to bring Alex Ferguson to coach them, Dynamos would still collect maximum points. “The coaches might say this is just another match but the truth is, the players’ mindset and focus must change. This is Highlanders and they are Dynamos. To us supporters winning the league title having lost to Dynamos will mean nothing and that theory also applies to Dynamos,” said the former Warriors manager. He added: “I can bet my last dime that the majority of Highlanders supporters will be content finishing on position two or even three as long as abafana beat Dynamos home and away, that is what victory over Dynamos means to this family,” Chronicle
