DEMOCRACY ACTION LAST HOPE FOR AUCKLAND PROPERTY OWNER RIGHTS At a meeting yesterday of Democracy Action, a group formed to fight this undermining of our property rights, we learned there are an additional 2000 designated sites requiring ‘iwi’ approval. These are the sites of ecological significance (SES). In practice this means tribal interests now control what you can and cannot do on your property in the affected areas. If Council requires you to have a resource consent then you will have to obtain approval, not only from Council, but also from up to 19 different iwi. These provisions will have two effects. They will reduce your property value and the cost of consents will sky rocket. Each iwi is currently charging around $1500 for a CIA.
