DEMONOLOGY- introduction: by Hephzibah Christly “Through knowledge shall the just be delivered” ~ Proverbs 11:9b. Christians suffer untold hardship because of ignorance. Lest the devil take advantage of your ignorance and beguile you as he did Eve, we aim through this teaching to expose how the devil uses evil spirits to torment, oppress, obsess, manipulate, control, possess and dominate humans. Demonology is the systematic study of demons and how they operate. Origin: There are divergent views about their origin. One school of thought postulates that demons came into existence through the copulation of angelic and human beings. Basing their arguments on Genesis 6:2 which states: “The sons of GOD saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of who they chose”; and appealing to Jude 6-7 and 1 Peter 3:19-20, they have interpreted the phrase ”sons of GOD” Hebrew, ”Bene ha’Elohim” to refer to angels - See also Genesis 6:4, Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:7. This school of thought further explained that, the flood judgment destroyed the bodies of these illegitimate offspring of the human and angelic copulation, hence they became bodiless spirits. Another school of thought claims that demons are fallen angels who joined the devil to revolt against GOD’s rule and government. These divergent views or theological arguments does not negate the fact that demons exist and are bodiless wicked spirits. Whatever their origin, through my missionary work, I have come know that “demons are malevolent bodiless spirits who desire a body in which to live in and through which to carry out their evil assignment against humanity”. The body they seek to inhabit and operate through could either be human or animal.( Study Matthew 12:43-45, and Mark 5:11-13). Although their preference is for a living human body, but where that is not available, they are known to substitute with an animal, place or thing. Demons, because of their affinity to humans, are found in clusters where humans dwell. Angels are distinctly different from demons because angels have form and Scripture record shows how an angel took the form of a young man when he appeared to humans. In Daniel chapter 9:21-22, Daniel clearly identified the form that spoke with him as having the form of a man. Whereas in Matthew 12:43, and 8:28, the evil spirits in the discussion took up residence in the human vessel in order to use the faculties of the human soul and body. Demonization is a reality and not the figment of the imagination. Demons do possess and influence humans toward evil, immorality and destruction. They are evil , malicious, and under the devil’s authority, working with him to steal, to kill and to destroy humans. They are the enemies of GOD and humanity. Watch out for the next post.
