DESIGNS I took drafting when I was in High School and although I was not the best student of that subject, I enjoyed the process of designing and representing designs. My grandfather was an architect and I would steal away every opportunity to walk across our town and visit him. He worked out of his home and in the living room was a large table that was adjustable with a stool. Upon this table were the drawings and pages of calculation required to perform his designs and bring them to fruition. I would stand there beside my grandfather, my head barely above the lower edge of the design table and watch as he drew his designs and then using his slide rule work out the various computations essential in there completion. As a result of these early experiences I have gained an appreciation for the good design abounding about me. I visited Spain and walked the streets observing the grand cathedrals with they’re flying buttresses and vaulted ceilings and intricate colonnades. In England the construction of the castles and other earthworks of antiquity held my attention and captivated my imagination. The pyramids and so many other objects of man’s handiwork, all of equally impressive character, all captured my eye. I have grown older and now my eye sees the exquisite symmetry throughout nature, the basis for man’s pursuit of design and architecture. We as a people have designed the most awesome things, aircraft that streak the heavens and travel to distant locals. Computers that speed the processing of thought and aid in the creations of our mind. Design is all around us and as I have become longevitis in life I have seen the grander designs of the Grand Architect of the Universe. I have come to the realization that all that has been designed and created sprang from the one and only source of all imagination and inspiration.
