DESMOND LESLIE BOXES BERNARD LEVIN In 1962, theatre critic Bernard Levin published a scathing review of the actress Agnes Agi Bernelle in the Daily Mail, slating her musical abilities in Savagery and Delight, a one-woman show staged in the West End. In response, Desmond Leslie, Agis County Monaghan-based husband, punched Levin in front of eleven million viewers during an edition the satirical TV show That Was The Week That Was in 1962, as captured on the accompanying 45 second clip. What Leslie failed to concede as he delivered the punch was that Agi’s opening night had been a disaster. He had forgotten or failed to wire the speakers properly so her voice could not be heard by anyone beyond the first couple of rows.
