DETECTIVE PARTNER HERO VILLAIN by Nancy Bianconi, Editor Congratulations to A Theatre Connection and SkyPilot Theatre Company for presenting the West Coast Premiere of DETECTIVE PARTNER HERO VILLAIN written by Brett Neveu and directed by Jonathan Price. It was a great escape into crime noir and superheros. The play kept me guessing with a surprise ending that only a good writer and seasoned director could of pulled off. The story is about Detective Baker scrambling to find a serial killer without the usual help from his friend, superhero Fantastic Phenomenon. Baker pursues the clues with help from his partner Warren and super villain Supernova but is he ready to uncover the truth? Does Baker want to expose the realities of life and death and the ultimate consequences of trusting those who tell us to “keep the faith?” Anthony Backman played Detective Baker brilliantly and truly captured every essence of a detective in a black and white film in the fifties. Bob Rusch portrayed the partner of Detective Baker. His comedic timing and acting was impeccable. Jeff Alan-Lee Lee played villain Supernova in a remarkable way. He commanded the stage through humor, charm and wit. Paul Hicks as superhero Fantastic Phenomenon was very enjoyable with a good mix of tenderness and humor. DETECTIVE PARTNER HERO VILLAIN has great comic satire with an intriguing twisting plot. This play has it all...great comedy, sophistication and a thought provoking ending. Bravo to the actors and creative team...this is good theatre! Runs: April 18-May 24, 2014, Fridays and Saturdays 8pm Where: NoHo Actors Studio, 5215 Lankershim blvd., North Hollywood, CA 91601 (above Pit Fire Pizza) Tickets: $20 - purchase at ATheatreConnection or call 800-838-3006.
