DHAKA, Sunday, 27 July 2014 Condolence Khandakar Ziaul Islam Masud The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) expresses profound sadness at the passing away of former National Team pace bowler Khandakar Ziaul Islam Masud. The Board extends deepest sympathies to the family of the departed and prays for the salvation of his soul. Masud, 63, breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the Anwar Khan Modern Hospital in Dhaka today. He is survived by his wife and two sons. At the time of his death, Masud was serving the BCB in the capacity of Umpire Educator. In a distinguished sports career Masud was a national athlete and arguably the quickest bowler in local cricket during the 70s and early 80s. He made a name for himself by playing for Wanderers Club, Azad Boys Club and Mohammedan Sporting Club in Dhaka’s league cricket. He was a member of the Bangladesh National Team that participated in the ICC Trophy for the first time in 1979. After finishing his playing career Masud became a respected umpire and later joined the BCB’s Umpires’ Department as an educator. The first namaz-e-janaza of the Late Ziaul Islam Masud will be held at the Baitul Noor Jame Mosque in Wari after Johr prayers tomorrow (Monday, 28 July) followed by the second around 2:30pm at the Bangabandhu National Cricket Stadium. He will be buried at the Azimpur Graveyard.
