DID GRACE AND TRUTH COME TO ABOLISH THE LAW? 1. Law: “Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.” Romans 3:31 “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” I John 3:4 We shall all be judged by the law or the Word of God. It is a standard of justification. For whoever keeps and does all the law, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. It is the rule of God in our lives. God shall reject those who reject any part of His law. Sin is being against the law; not doing the law. Read Acts 28:23-24 about the Apostle expounding from the law and prophets about Jesus Christ. To the law and to the testimony, if they do not speak according to this Word they do not have light in them. 2. Truth Study John 8:31-34. “Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.” Psalms 119:142 “Thou art near, O Lord; and all thy commandments are truth.” Psalms 119:151 Jesus told the Jews who believed in Him that if they continued in His Word (law), they would be His disciples and that they would know the truth and the same truth would set them free from the rule of sin not from the rule of the law of God. Being set free from the rule of the law of God is to be a servant of sin. 3. Grace “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid.” Romans 6:1 (Eph 2:8-9, I Cor 15:9-10, II Cor 6:1, II Pet 3:18, Heb 4:14-16) Since sin is the transgression of the law, the second question above can be phrased: Shall we continue transgressing the law that grace may abound? Titus 2:11-12, Romans 5:8 A murderer, who deserved a sentence to death, after being convicted at court by law was set free by just the mercies of the judge; was set free (salvation) not by his works (well doing). But if he breaks the law after being set free, he can be hang to death. We were all like this murderer without hope. Our personal defense was useless but grace abound. By grace, through Jesus Christ, salvation came as a gift to us not by our own works. A sinner who is trying to come to Christ by his own works is setting aside the grace of God. Grace does not release us from keeping and doing the law. All of us received the Spirit of God by grace through faith and not by our own works. If we lack one of the three: grace, law and truth, our Christianity and labors are in vain. We need all the three!
