DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS The red face of ‘Belladonna’is different from the red face of Sulphur or Cina or Chamomilla.The belladonna face is red because of congestion and hyperaemia and is associated with throbbing of carotids or severe congestive headaches with red blood shot eyes.This redness can be increased or decreased with anxiety,anger or any other emotion unlike sulph where the redness will not be altered by emotions. ‘Sulphur’face redness is superficial and has nothing to do with the vascularity.It is the skin which is irritated and red and the capillaries are dilated enough to bring extra blood to the irritated skin.The redness of the skin is more on the palms,soles,chest and occasionally the face. ‘Cina’has redness only at the orifices like around the nostrils,eyes and mouth while the cheeks are generally pale. ‘Chamomilla’s redness is like belladonna but it is localized,not diffused.It is markedly at the ears and cheeks.Chamomilla constitutions get redness of the ear lobes and meatus.One cheek red and the other pale is another hallmark of chamomilla.A special affinity of chamomilla’s redness is the margin of lower eyelids of the eye and on the other hand belladonna has redness of the tip of nose.
