DISSONANCE, DISSENTERS & DISSIDENTS Commissioning call for composers, musicians, writers and artists working with sound: Resonance FM & Void 10/10 – 24/11 As part of the 2013 residency at the Derry VOID, the artists radio station Resonance FM are commissioning new sound works to be premiered in broadcasts on Resonance FM as part of this Void Sites project for Derry~Londonderry UK City of Culture 2013. Broadcasts of the commissioned works both in Derry, and simultaneous broadcasts in London on the Resonance FM schedule. Works are to be 30 - 90 minutes in duration, and can be either pre-recorded or performed and broadcast live from the specially commissioned Resonance FM mobile studio. There are four commissioning strands, designed to encourage diverse works that correspond to core concerns of Void and the Resonance FM, and reflect on the wider context and concerns of the city and people of Derry including its present, past and future, its status across 2013 as UK City Of Culture 2013, its position as a border-town between NI and ROI, its historic relationship with London and with Ireland and with the world. The commissioning strands are Site Specific, Radiophonic Sculpture, Oral History, Radio Art. 1. Site Specific: Projects that use sound to interact - or frame interactions - with a public space or piece of architecture in Derry. 2. Radiophonic Sculpture:This strand is intended to bring together radiophonic artists who build instruments or sonic sculptures which can be developed in a publically accessible radiophonic workshop. Within this strand, proposals of key interest are those which can offer at least one live performance using elements of the workshop during the residency, which will be broadcast on Resonance FM. 3. Radio Art: This strand is a call for new works of radio art. They can be pre-produced or performed live. Minimum length 30 minutes. 4. Oral Documents / Oral History; A documentary work or work of drama, poetry or speech to be pre-recorded or performed live with the Resonance Radio Orchestra at locations of the specially commissioned Resonance FM mobile studio truck. Across all the above strands, commissions of £500 and commissions of £1,000 are available.
