DISTRACTIONS & PROOFING A 4-Week Intensive Training Class Start Date: Wednesday, June 25 End Date: Wednesday, July 16 Time: 7:45 PM to 8:45 PM Class Limit: 10 dog/handler teams Cost: $50 for Non-Members / $45 for Members Pre-requisite: Intermediate or equivalent Instructors: Melinda Grosch and Angela Silvestri Class Description and Partial Syllabus: This class will provide a multitude of distractions to proof dog and handler teams for things that will happen around the trial ring or in real life. Session 1: Squirrel!! Lets all Focus Here Making sure your dog knows how to pay attention – overcoming a predator’s natural tendency to attention deficit disorder. Session 2: Ghosties and Goulies, and Things That Go Bump in the Night! Fear and Panic How to ease a dog’s fears and help them to focus on the task at hand in a distressing environment. Session 3: Dogs Just Want to Have Fun Partaaa! How to be the “popular” kid in the crowd – food, toys, and chasing squirrels. Session 4: Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You Permanence Commitment to the relationship and keeping it joyous. Required Materials: lots of tasty treats, a few favorite toys, a crate (or blanket for the crates in the building), vaccination records (first class only). The instructors will provide treat samples and a recipe booklet the first night.
