DMSF & STEMdelivered teams - lets write a proposal for this idea: My thought is for it to be a project that brings together: - writers (write a story board), - illustrator/animators (create environments and animations), - scientists/farmers/nutritionists (real-world, scientific input/perspective), and - educators (how to present the information in an educational setting). Some thoughts for a King Corn animated video/game/eBook (3-5 minutes?): - Environments: - Grasslands vs. corn feed lots for cows - Corn fields of Iowa & Colorado; family farms - Map of U.S. showing where corn grows and where it goes after it is harvested - Assets (animated to emphasize the science/impact): - corn kernel – endosperm (starch) and germ (proteins) - corn stalk with corn growing - cows – normal and obese; growth rate comparisons - steak – 1.3 grams vs. 9.0 grams of saturated fat - people – growing obese from Western Diet - Themes: - health/nutrition – corn vs. grass-fed cattle; high fructose corn syrup in foods - economics – increased yields; increased efficiency - government policy – impact of agricultural industry & health
