DNA is focus of expert testimony in homicide trial September 12, 2014 By TORY IRWIN (tirwin@sungazette) A pair of socks has never been so important. The footwear in question is key evidence in the trial of Shakoor Trapp, 26, who is accused of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and burglary. The white crew socks with gray toes were found in Trapps 610 Maple Street residence tinged with a reddish brown substance that looked like blood. Expert testimony from state police DNA lab worker Timothy Gavel offered Thursday during the trial confirmed that the socks were indeed stained with blood belonging to Tiffany Nixon, the woman Trapp allegedly attacked May 29, 2011. A mixture of DNA was found in the elastic part of the sock that goes around the ankle, but a predominate amount of that DNA was traceable back to Trapp. See todays Sun-Gazette or sungazette for the full story.
