DNM is not and never will be a trademarked modality nor will - TopicsExpress

DNM is not and never will be a trademarked modality nor will anyone ever be able to claim it as a proprietary term. Its an explanatory model, not a particular set of moves. From Alice Sanvito Lbt: >>> I have seen the problem of following a trademarked technique first hand in watching someone I knew get involved in one. In order to advertise that you practice this technique, you have to keep taking continuing ed from them, guaranteeing them a source of income and probably keeping you from learning anything else. AND you are required to practice it just the way they teach it or you cannot say you are doing it. You have to follow their protocols, their rules. In order to do this, you have to turn off your critical thinking or else youre going to start questioning what they tell you to do and how you do it. Youre locked into a protocol that you cant deviate from. If they change their minds about what theyre doing, you have to change with them. It was a lesson to me: dont get wedded to a modality. If you divorce, they get everything. Its just not right to trademark a way of treating people or a set of ideas related to treating people. It never has been. It never will be. Its a scourge in manual therapy that arose from, and is perpetuated by, ignorance and greed. It can be combatted by reading and learning and developing your own talents in stress reduction through touch.
