DO THINGS JUST HAPPEN? “Many people don’t know that I WAS AT THE OKLAHOMA CITY BOMBING on April 19, 1995. I was in college and working for First United Methodist Church next door. I was running late for work that morning. I was supposed to be there at 9 a.m. and I had to stop by my mom’s office, which PUT ME BEHIND. It actually SAVED MY LIFE. Had I not stopped by her office, I would’ve been right in front of that building when it exploded. I arrived just minutes after it happened and—still, to this day—it was the most SURREAL thing I’ve ever experienced in my life. I remember standing there looking at that building, the whole face of it blown off, with computers dangling from the fourth floor and paper floating down like snow. Stunned people walked around covered in gray ash and blood. It was utter chaos and devastation right before my eyes. But then I NOTICED SOMETHING TRULY EXTRAORDINARY. At our CHURCH next door, which had also experienced extensive damage, every window had been blown out … EXCEPT THE STAINED GLASS PICTURE OF JESUS. It remained COMPLETELY INTACT! I remember standing there looking at that window in the middle of all the chaos and thinking, GOD IS STILL IN CONTROL HERE.” Rene Gutteridge •••• Yesterday, on Easter, we celebrated the resurrection of Christ. The day before was the 19th ANNIVERSARY of JESUS PREVAILING in a STAINED GLASS WINDOW amid the tragedy at Oklahoma City. Did that JUST HAPPEN? No way. Nothing just happens! It was more evidence that HE WILL ALWAYS PREVAIL. That God will prevail over whatever rubble you have in your life ... and He’ll be watching your back. Wishes for godwinks for a great week of Spring.
