DO YOU INTERPRET THE BIBLE OR INTERPOLATE IT? It is dumbfounding how much Biblical Interpolation is done under the guise of Biblical Interpretation, whether done ignorantly or on purpose, the result is the same - misinterpretation! The concern? Misinterpretation of the Bible results in adding to or taking away from Gods Word! (Biblical) Interpolation: to alter (a text) by the insertion of new matter, especially deceptively or without authorization; to introduce (something additional or extraneous) between other things or parts; interject; interpose; intercalate. (Dictionary) To equate believe on with accept in regards to the Savior is Biblical Interpolation. The two are neither synonyms nor interchangeable? Modern Biblical Interpretation done under the banner of Interpretation consists of: I know the verse reads that way, but it doesnt mean that. It really means (insert your opinion or religious tradition here). It is amazing to me that so many are comfortable with implying by their beliefs/doctrines/opinions that God does not say what He means and/or mean what He says. Poor old God, it so nice that there people around who are willing and able to correct His senior moments for Him. NOT! The result: many who say that they believe the Bible only believe their Interpolated (see definition above) version of the Bible. After they get through eliminating the parts that they dont like and altering the parts that are uncomfortable for them to make them more acceptable to their lifestyle, they are now qualified to work as Readers Digest book-condensation editors. HOWEVER, The Bible very clearly warns against Biblical Interpolation and the consequences for the Interpolator are severe: Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers giveth you. Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.(Deuteronomy 4:1-2 KJV) What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it. (Deuteronomy 12:32 KJV) Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. (Proverbs 30:5-6 KJV) For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. (Revelation 22:18-19 KJV) Bishop Chester M Wright Antioch, The Apostolic Church Arnold, Maryland
