Firstly by setting the contract up on the longest term possible (usually 5 years) itll bring your repayments down considerably (or at least it should). You may even be guaranteed a free upgrade half way through the contract but nothing in life is really free so this should start the alarm bells ringing. Probably what theyll do is offer you the upgrade in exchange for signing into a new 5 year deal, which means that theyve trapped you into a contract that youll find expensive to exit from. All theyve done is simply build extra margin into the deal to cover the cost of a replacement machine, which is easy to do when stretching finance over 5 years. It’s a win-win for the dealer because the machine they collect from you has likely been paid off in full yet theyll be able to lease it to another customer or sell it for pure profit! Even if you dont agree to take the upgrade assuming the machine has been paid the remaining repayments are pure profit for the dealer. Then when the minimum term is up youll have your machine taken away so you will need to buy or finance something else. That same dealer will then sell or re-lease your old machine to someone else so while they think theyre getting a cheap second hand machine its you who is paying the price and the dealer is laughing all the way to the bank.
