DOES GOD EXIST? Here is a condensed form of an argument for the existence of God. The universe and our solar system are so fine-tuned for life to exist that it SCREAMS for a highly intelligent and powerful Creator. For example, we live in just the right part in just the right type of galaxy for life to exist. Our sun is just the right type, size, and distance away from the earth to permit life. If it were any smaller, bigger, closer, or farther, then no life would be possible. Our moon is just the right size and distance from the earth and has a particular gravitational effect on earth, including its tidal system, to permit life. If the moon were any closer or farther or bigger or smaller our earth would be uninhabitable. The earth tilts on its axis, rotates, and circles the sun at just the right ratios for life to thrive on earth. There is also the correct oxygen/nitrogen mixture in the atmosphere to permit life. Earth’s magnetic field is just right to allow life. If anyone of the above measurements were different by the minutest fraction, then there would be no life on Earth. There are many, many more examples that could be given to show that the universe was designed for the purpose of supporting life. Indeed, God says in His word, “For this is what the LORD says— he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited— he says: ‘I am the LORD, and there is no other’” (Isaiah 45:18).To believe that this universe popped into existence by nothing and for nothing and then by chance fine-tuned itself to promote life takes an awful lot of blind faith in the face of contrary evidence.
