Free will donation. ~Knit-Wits meet at Deanna Wealand’s home at 10:00 am Tuesday, March 25th. All who sew, crochet or knit are welcome. ~Pastoral Relations Comm. Sunday, March 30th at 9:00am - From Troy Ray, Executive Director of Halifax Urban Ministries, we received a thank you letter thanking UCC for the vital way we have supported their work in the community through our 2013 gifts of $1335.00. -HUM has helped prevent homelessness for thousands of at risk families by providing 24,771 Feed a Family Packages totaling 495 tons of food. The Bridge of Hope Hot Meal Program provided over 145,441 meals, and the HUM Family Shelter 117 families with children received up to 6 months of shelter, meals and services as they put their lives back together. Troy notes the number of Volusia County homeless is estimated at over 5500 persons. 31,700 families live below the poverty line. We are asked to please continue to support our mission and keep HUM and those they serve through our prayers. *** -Jim Kipp sent a special thank you card to the UCC family: “I would like to thank all the members of our church for the wonderful ‘retirement party’ when I made the hard decision to end my time at the sound board. I will continue to assist as I can if needed but it was time to spend more time at church with Sharon and take a break from his other duties. *** “Thanks to everyone. It was a great surprise and one I will remember.” *** -Thank you letter from the Culp Family Ministries (For His Glory to the Nations) for our gift of $235.00. -The Pregnancy Crisis Center hosts its Volunteer Recognition Luncheon & Fashion Show Saturday, March 8th, 11:30am at the Palmetto Club. In 2013, 2194 women were helped to finish education, one receiving her GED, some acquire job skills, achieve self-sufficiency. One woman was helped to get her GED. Five mothers lovingly placed their babies for adoption with five very happy couples. Our Knit Wits have provided mothers with their first cherished baby gifts! Luncheon donation is $20.00. Call 386 257-2229 for reservations. *** ~ Family Renew Community writes, “Family Renew Community ended 2013 in a comfortable financial position, the first time in several years, and you helped make that happen.” Thank you for your 2013 donation of $902.00. “We are deeply grateful for the support of all those who care about our families.” `The February folders’ included Marlene Anderson, Percy Clark, Becky Hawk, Debby Bell, Pete & Norma Dannug, Ruth Kelsey, Eileen Heald and Diane Johnston. There is a happy hum and thrum as these folks chat and work to fold and prepare the Chatter for mailing. Thank you to each who comes out to serve as they enjoy one another’s company. -The Mary Martha Circle would like to thank everyone for donating Campbell’s coupons and box top labels for education. Please continue to place them in the bag in the church vestibule. Lots of these coupons and box top labels have been mailed to the National Home for Children, and are used toward getting another van. ~Thank you to the church staff for hospitality and set-up for Charles McCollough’s excellent teaching through his sculpture on the beatitudes. We were all enriched by him and his wife, Carol. We received an invitation from First Congregational Church of Orange City UCC inviting our members to join them for a wonderful evening of music and dancing on March 22, to benefit Grace House of Hope Orphanage in Haiti. The Orphanage is located in a community just east of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. MOONLIGHTERS SWING BAND will perform the benefit Concert/Dance. Tickets are minimum donation of $6.advance, or $7. at the door. Snacks and bevs available for purchase. Call 386 775-2462. Mon-Fri, 9am-1pm. The Moonlighters Swing Band from Daytona Beach specializes in the big-band, jazz, rock and blues genres, performing favorites such as ‘In the Mood, Jailhouse Rock, Almost Like Being in Love, and Moonlight Serenade.’ All proceeds will go to the Grace House of Hope Orphanage (for 18 girls) to help with school tuition/expenses.
