DON’T EXPECT GOD PAY FOR YOUR BAD DECISIONS! So many times, we bring our troubles on ourselves. While the choice to sin on my part is of necessity Gods business”, since ONLY He can absolve me of guilt, the “price” of bad choices that come in the form of “reaping what you have sown”, is a personal debt that He has NOT taken on my behalf. Our decision to fiddle away job after job, to waste repeated opportunities to come to and establish a spiritual relationship with God, to enter into relationships which offer nothing but temptation (and then be “surprised” they didn’t work out) and do other hindering things which have us in various difficulties are not His fault – they happen most of the time because we ignore or minimize the dangers involved. Suddenly, we are up against it – out of money, bills to pay, depressed and anxious. We continue a lifestyle which keeps us up late on Saturday, and makes us tired and sleepy on Sunday. Seemingly the only time we have to make things better is the time He asked us to be with Him. The only money we have to pay our bills is money we owe to Him. The sense of doubt and bitterness makes us decide to forgo meeting our obligations to God in favor of immediate debt relief, bill relief, or emotional relief. While God loves you, and wants the best for you, He has not given you permission to delay your obligations to Him to get your own house in order after you messed it up. In the O.T., God demanded the firstfruits Le 23:10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest: The tithe and offerings were NEVER available for the Israelites to use for their own comfort or commitments: Mal 3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. While tithing is not a part of the gospel, as such, the obligation to return Gods portion to Him still holds. And it comes BEFORE our catching up, or meeting obligations rashly undertaken. Failing to meet with the saints on the first day is not excused because we overindulged the day before, and dont feel like it... I have a question: “If ‘be not deceived, whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap’ does not instruct us here, what DOES it apply to?” Too often, we give according to our need, and not according to our prosperity (1 Cor 16:1,2) (acb)
