“DON’T FALL FOR THIS SCAM” Duke Energy Scam Citizens beware of the most recent scam that has been tried here in Franklin. You may receive a phone call from a scammer representing himself as a Duke Energy bill collector. He will insist you use a green dot card to pay the bill. You will be told you can go to places like Walmart, CVS, or Circle K Carryout’s to get a green dot card. The scammer will instruct you to take it to the register and have money in the amount you are told the energy bill is and have that amount of money placed on this card. After you get the card the scammer tells you to call a phone number and give them the number off the green dot card. At that point they take the money off the card and you have just been scammed for all the money on the card. As of today they have use an area code of 513-223- xxxx to work their scam. I made contact with Duke Energy and have been advised they have received many of these types of calls and complaints from citizens being called to pay their bills. Remember you will not get these types of calls from Duke Energy. If you are late on your bill you can pay your bill directly to them over the phone by calling your Duke Energy Company number direct. You do not use these types of cards to pay your bill. If you have any questions about what to do about these types of calls, please contact your locate police department and Energy Company.
