“DON’T ISOLATE AND IGNORE YOUR PARENTS AND ELDERS” (KUNDAN KASHMIRI) As you know, my self and my organization KPC have been regressly struggling against various community evils like inter-cast marriage, divorces, breaking of joint family system not using mother tongue Kashmiri language, adopting one or two child norm, isolating and ignoring elders and parents. But today, I will like to avail an opportunity to highlight elaborately about the importance and necessity of caring for elders and old parents who are ignored and isolated. In the past, joint family system remained enviable characteristic of Indian society including Kashmiri Pandit Community, but the constraints of modern mechanical life, mad race for fake prosperity in the present society and materialistic approach among present generation who want to move with changing world, have complexed the situation. This resulted that we are fast shifting to nuclear life. It is very important for present young generation to understand that these elders who are presently ignored and isolated have built the modern and vibrant India along with their families and communities which the present generation enjoys today. How unfortunate that development is, which became reason to deprive elders and parents of their love and care, allowed them weep and keep them dependent upon others. In old age, they need care, love and sympathy, which essentially young family members of present generation can provide. This imbalance needs to be corrected by their proper caring, providing them a life of comfort, love, dignity, pride and place of honour in their respective domestic circles. At present time elders and old parents are facing serious problems and most distressing one being loneliness forced upon them, when the same generation of elderly people have worked hard in their entire life, in their own way, style and means for transforming Indian nation from middle age to modernity. Now our youth are much more fortunate to have inherited the comforts of that modernity and mechanized life that provided comforts and dignity to them, than the generation of elderly people and old parents. This is also issue of moral, ethical and humanistic values that must come to work when this young generation of present times are thinking of making the life of elderly more comfortable and pleasurable. That is why in present society of young generation it is important to develop strong morale and ethical system for transforming the society into a caring and considerate modern society. I as an a elderly personality, feel that true test of high standard of society and an individual of present young generation lies in way senior citizens, elders, old aged people and parents are cared, treated and supported well and to make it precedence for future generation. In coming times this will reciprocate to this young generation because its becomes more and more stringent with the passage of times for the simple reason that in coming a decade or decades population of elderly people in our country will jump higher to higher by becoming present youth an elderly and old. So, if the present nuclear family system continues without any change then their will be huge population regularization problem, in which present youth would automatically suffer. This responsibility also lies to the people and politicians in power to give full attention toward elderly people as how various services could become easily accessible to them like medical, entertainment, recordation, celebration etc. There is also need to protect the rights of elders for which our nation have two legislations at the moment one is maintenance and welfare of parent and senior citizen Act 2007, and another is national policy for Senior citizen 2011. These both needs to be implemented and utilized in honest and transparent way in the benefit of elders as at present both these legislation seems to be dormant. I am also of the firm opinion that concept and precedence set by foreigners about establishment of old age homes for our elders and parents, is against the Indian and our community culture which needs to be discourage and continue to protect your elders and parents in the family atmosphere of their children and grand children. “PLEASE THINK AND ACT COOLLY OVER IT” Kundan Kashmiri Socio & human right activists President KPC Mobile : 08285224519 kundankashmiri@gmail
