DON’T POSTPONE JOY A particularly special moment occurred this week. On Monday, I was travelling during severe weather. What started out as a six hour trip with two flights, ended up in a 12 hour trip; 3 planes, hours on the tarmac two different times and no luggage resulting in facilitating an eight hour workshop the next day in the same clothes (exuding thanks in my mind that I didn’t wear my usual sweat pants on the plane and I had a zipper!). I was consciously working to keep positive throughout the entire journey; especially since the turbulence on first flight was so atrocious I was just thankful to be alive. At one point, I was sitting in Chicago O’Hare airport charging my phone and out of the corner of my eye, I notice a man’s t-shirt who quickly walked by and it said “Don’t Postpone Joy”. I thought, “Wow, did it really say that?” It felt like a personal message. I reached for my notebook to write it down and thought I wish I had a photo of it. Not a second later, he walked by again and I asked him where he got the t- shirt. He sort of cocked his head to the side (looking a little melancholy) and said “Oh some friends made it.” I asked if I could take a picture. He agreed and then proceeded to tell me that he had a friend named Joy and that she died at 28 in a tragic car accident. She always joked with her friends and said, “Don’t Postpone Joy”. They made the t-shirts in memory of her. It was obvious he loved her and missed her. Joy shows up if you are looking for it and not postponing it. I gave him my card and told him that I would spread the JOY. Here is Joy’s friend. Life is short; there really is no better way to live.
