So what happens if it does go wrong:- Case Study Cover was arranged by a couple who were due to be living abroad for a number of years so rented out the family home, tenancy agreements were drawn up, insurers were advised and a policy issued. Unfortunately the tenants trashed the property causing many thousands of pounds of damage, when the claims was submitted to insurers, the insured were advised the policy did not cover malicious damage caused by tenants or people invited onto the premises. Result The insured couple had to find the money themselves to repair the property, therefore costing them money for the repair and losing the rental income Solution Check the policy wording to ensure cover includes Malicious Damage caused by tenants, or alternatively speak to a professional broker such as DPB Insurance Services who can review the market for you and obtain and discuss various options, but the client should always know what they are covered for.
